Graduated in Civil Engineering, Giulia Pomaranzi received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering with honours at the Politecnico di Milano in September 2022, with the thesis entitled "Numerical and experimental assessment of wind load on Permeable Double Skin Façades". In 2022 she was a collaborator at the Cabinet Office of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development for the technical evaluation of projects to be funded within the National Resilience and Recovery Plan (NRRP). In March 2023 she was appointed as Fellow Researcher (RTDA SSD ING-IND/13) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
Her research activity mainly concerns the fluid-structure interaction and specifically the estimation of wind load on civil structures and of the dynamic response of such structures due to wind action. Her activity in this sector is based both on experimental techniques and numerical approaches (computational fluid dynamics). She is currently involved in several industrial and research projects on experimental and numerical wind engineering, concerning the evaluation of wind loads on buildings and stadiums, the modelling of the effects of porous screens on buildings and the evaluation of stability and the buffeting response of long-span bridges.
She is the author of several scientific articles published in international journals or conference proceedings. As far as teaching activities are concerned, she has been assistant professor in the master's degree courses "Aero-hydrodynamics of Sailing" and "Mechanical System Dynamics", and has been co-supervisor of several master's theses in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
