Michele Bertolini has been an Assistant Professor (contract type A) at the Department of Mechanics of the Politecnico di Milano since March 2023. At Politecnico, he obtained his Master’s Degree with Honours in Biomedical Engineering (LM-21) in October 2018 and the PhD title in May 2022, supervised by Prof. Giorgio Colombo.

After completing his PhD, he was post-doc research fellow at the Department of Mechanics of the Politecnico, as part of the European project Horizon 2020 ROSE (“Restoring Odorant detection and recognition in Smell dEficits”).

From June 2021 to September 2021, he was also a visiting PhD student at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science at University College London (UCL). His work involved the development of 3D printed simulators for the clinical training of complex cardiovascular procedures.

Michele’s research activities are carried out in the group of “Progetto e Disegno di Macchine” of the Department of Mechanics. They have mainly concerned the development of methodologies and tools specific to industrial engineering applied to the biomedical field, also through their integration (e.g., CAD-CAE systems, segmentation of medical images, additive manufacturing, and AR/VR visualization systems). The results of these research activities have been published in several scientific journals and international conference proceedings.

Michele has carried out and is carrying out complementary teaching activities and tutoring for several courses related to the scientific disciplinary field ING-IND/15, at the Schools of Industrial and Information Engineering (3I) and Design of the Politecnico di Milano.
