Dr Demir was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1985. He obtained his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 2009. He obtained the title of PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2014 with a thesis developed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. In 2014, was a post-doc research fellow at the Manufacturing and Production Systems Research Line of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. He is currently serving as an Assistant Professor (RTDa). His current research interests include laser processing, mainly additive manufacturing (selective laser melting, directed energy deposition) and micromachining (surface texturing, microcutting and micro-drilling). He studies the development process diagnosis techniques using optical methods based on the analysis of the process emission and on the use of the probe light. He works at the SITEC - Laboratory for Laser Applications and Add.Me Lab of the Department of Mechanics. Since 2013 he is one of the teachers of the Advanced Manufacturing Processes Lab (MSc in Mechanical Engineering) and the teaching assistant of the Tecnologia Meccanica I course (BSc in Mechanical Engineering). He is a member of AITeM - Italian Association of Manufacturing Technology and Photonics21 - European Photonics Platform. He authored over 50 scientific papers published in international scientific journals and in international conference proceedings. He has effectively taken part in several national and international research projects.
