Francesco Castelli-Dezza was born in Milan, in 1960. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano” in 1986 and 1990 respectively.
From 1992 to 2001, he was assistant professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of “Politecnico di Milano” in the disciplinary sector “ Electrical converters, machines and drives". On 1/11/2001 he began his services as associate professor at “Politecnico di Milano”, where he is endorsed as teacher of the course of “Electrical Drives”. On 01/01/2008 he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
On 01/03/2016 he began his service as full professor at “Politecnico di Milano".
His main research fields are:
- Power electronics, with regard to the study and the control of different converter topologies and to the study of high performance modulation and control strategies applied to medium-high power converters
- Static converters for distributed generation and automotive application, with particular care to efficiency increment of the whole process and to power quality
- Sensorless control techniques.
- Design of digital control of electrical drives: formal methods and real time systems.
- Modeling and control of electromagnetic devices
He is author or co-author of more than 140 journal and conference scientific papers, on the above topics.
He is the scientific coordinator of a lot of research collaborations between “Politecnico di Milano - Dipartimento di Elettrotecnica/ di Meccanica” and industrial partners about the study, design and development of high performance electrical drives and mechatronics devices.
He was the promoter, the executor and the manager of a Laboratory for Industrial Electrical Drives, as a support to SME (first of all about low cost drives) and to advance training courses.
- Since 2003 he is a member of the Academic Board of the PhD Programme in Electrical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.
