Gisella Tomasini graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 at Politecnico di Milano and she received a Ph. D. in Applied Mechanics in 2005. She is associated professor at Politecnico di Milano, Department of Mechanical Engineering since January 2018.
Gisella Tomasini is author or co-author of 71 scientific publications which include 34 papers published in peer-refereed international journals (ISI and Scopus listed).
She was PI of the POLIMI research unit for different projects funded by competitive research grants in the field of vehicle safety and transports and responsible for more than 20 Tests and Research Projects funded by public and private companies, i.e. C.R.R.C. (National Engineering Technology Research Center of High-speed Train, Qingdao, China), Italcertifer S.p.A. (Notified Body and Independent Safety Assessor), R.F.I. (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Italian Railway Infrastructure Manager).
The research activity is mainly focused on the aerodynamics of rail and road vehicles and, in general, on the fluid-structure interaction, by means of experimental activities on full scale vehicles and wind tunnel models and numerical analysis by multi-body and CFD approach. Other activities were carried out in the field of energy harvesting systems and smart self-powered sensors for predictive maintenance and vehicle monitoring as well as for the development of methodologies for the reduction of noise and vibrations.
