Prof. Matteo Strano is associate professor at Politecnico di Milano, Dipartimento di Meccanica, with qualification (abilitazione nazionale) to full professorship obtained in 2017. He is an expert of materials forming and moulding processes.
He teaches Advanced Manufacturing Processes (10 credits) to the master students in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico and Tecnologia Meccanica (5 credits) to the undergraduate students in Energy Engineering.
His research is focused on developing new methods, processes and machines for metal forming (especially sheet and tube forming processes) and additive manufacturing by extrusion. He is currently working on projects on the digital and sustainable transformation of materials forming technologies. He has lead about 20 research projects with full scientific responsibility, financed by public or private entities.
Memberships
He is a member of the Scientific-Technical Committee at MUSP (a public-private research laboratory).
He is associate editor for the SME Journal of Manufacturing Processes
He is a regular columnist of the Italian technical magazine “Lamiera”.
He is a member of the scientific committee of the ESAFORM association (European Association of Materials Forming) and regularly chairs the symposium “Optimization and inverse analysis in material forming” within the annual conference
He is a member of AITEM, the Associazione ITaliana delle Tecnologie Manifatturiere.
Bibliographic Production
He is the author of about 50 publications on international scientific journals, more than 60 presentations at conferences, more than 20 paper on technical journals or magazines or chapters in technical books, 2 educational books and 2 patents.
Education
He took his Master degree in 1996 at the Politecnico di Milano in Industrial engineering with a thesis on Abrasive Waterjet Cutting of Aluminum Sheets. He took his Ph.D. in 2002 at the Politecnico di Milano with a thesis on FEM Simulation of the Tube Hydroforming Processes. He spent half of the doctoral studies at the Ohio State University (Engineering Research Center for Net Shape Manufacturing).
